Glossary

All the terms used in TRUECHART+

 

Add/Remove Data Points
A planning feature allowing users to insert new data entries (e.g., a new product or region) or remove existing ones, expanding or refining the scenario scope.

Analysis Mode
A Qlik-specific mode that separates viewing from editing. In this mode, users can interact with visuals (e.g., filtering, commenting, planning) but cannot change layout. Features like Comment Mode and Pivot Mode are only usable in this mode.

Appearance (Advanced Formatting)
A section within formatting that governs font style, colors, borders, and background when overriding the Notation Manual.

Calculated Measure
A user-defined metric built by combining other measures using a formula. Calculated Measures are built using a visual formula editor or text expression, enabling custom logic like "AC Cost × 33".

Cell
A visual intersection of a dimension and measure in a TRUECHART+ table. Cell settings govern appearance, alignment, border, and responsiveness of individual cells, not their contents.

Comment Mode
A feature allowing users to add contextual comments in visuals. Requires an Input Group. In Qlik, this works only in Analysis Mode; in Power BI, it’s available anytime.

Conditional Formatting
A TRUECHART+ feature for applying formatting (e.g., color, bold) only when certain conditions are met (e.g., value > average). These are configured in the Advanced tab and support multiple rules per measure.

Conclude
A Scenario state that finalizes planning input, locking the scenario from further edits and marking it read-only.

Concept
Defines the visual styling logic for a measure:

  • Area uses "Other" colors and patterns (e.g., Forecast, Budget).

  • Colour uses "Normal/Positive/Negative" values (e.g., Deltas).

  • Area-Colour combines color and pattern for dual encoding.

Dimension
A categorical field used to segment data (e.g., Product, Region). Dimensions form the structure of rows/columns in tables or pivots.

Formula Builder
An on-screen interface for defining expressions used in Calculated Measures. Includes mathematical, comparison, logical, and manual entry tools for custom logic building.

Input Groups
Configuration objects that define how comments or inputs are collected. Each Input Group has a type (e.g., Comment, List, Value) and a set of keys to map inputs to specific data contexts.

Keys
Mapping structures used within Input Groups. Keys link user inputs to dimension or variable values and are required for proper association and filtering.

Light Planning
A simplified scenario planning feature that lets users enter values directly into a visual, supporting forecasting and simulation across dimensions.

Lock
A planning state that prevents editing of a scenario without fully concluding it. Used to pause input while keeping the scenario visible to others.

Measure
A numeric field representing a metric (e.g., Revenue, Cost). Measures are typically aggregated and analyzed across dimensions.

Multi Endpoint
A feature that allows user input (e.g., comments) to be routed to and stored in various external databases such as MySQL, MSSQL, or Snowflake.

Notation Manual
A visual styling guide applied to TRUECHART+ visuals, standardizing the use of fonts, colors, and patterns. Users can override it for advanced customization. Exists in Basic and Advanced modes.

Operator
Symbols used in Planning to modify how a value is applied:

  • = distributes totals equally.

  • +, -, ×, ÷ apply math operations.

  • No operator would proportionally distribute.

Pivot Mode
Allows users to interactively drag and drop dimensions between rows and columns.

Planning
A TRUECHART+ mode where users can simulate future data by entering, editing, and managing scenarios. Includes options to save, lock, or conclude input.

Scenario
A versioned input environment within Planning. Users can manage multiple scenarios, each with different projections or assumptions, and finalize them with Lock or Conclude.

Scaling Helper
An advanced Notation Manual feature allowing users to define line sizes and area fill colors across different scaling series.

Switch Signs
An option in formatting to invert a measure’s value (e.g., turning +100 into -100). Often used to align cost and revenue visual conventions.

Table Layout
A cell-level configuration for row/column sizing, column order, line height behavior, and freezing headers/columns for scrolling stability.

TRUECHART+
A powerful visual planning and commentary solution that integrates with Qlik and Power BI. It extends BI dashboards with collaborative features, planning tools, and dynamic visuals.

Visual
A rendered TRUECHART+ object (e.g., table, chart, or layout). It’s the user-facing component embedded into dashboards. In the preview panel, it refers to the entire object, not individual elements.
