First steps

Overview

This guide explains how to add and configure SLICERBAR items, including Slicers, Date Pickers, Buttons, and Groups. You'll learn how to:

  • Use auto creation to quickly generate items from your dimensions

  • Manually add and configure each item type

  • Combine items into a Group for more advanced layouts

Auto creation

SLICERBAR offers an auto-creation option. When enabled, adding a dimension automatically detects which item type should be created and generates it for you.

How it works

  1. Right-click on the extension and confirm that Auto creation is enabled.

  2. Add your dimensions — the appropriate items are created automatically.

Add items manually

Use manual creation when you want full control over which items are added and how they are configured. Ensure Auto creation is disabled before following the steps below.

Add a Slicer

  1. Click the SLICERBAR extension to add it to your sheet.

  2. Add one or more dimensions to your extension.

  1. Click Setup — the settings panel will expand.

  1. Click or drag Slicer from the left-hand panel into the builder area.

  2. Select a dimension, then click Save.

Your Slicer item is now active and ready to use.

Add a Date Picker

  1. Click or drag Date Picker from the left-hand panel into the builder area.

  2. Select a date dimension.

  3. Disable Date hierarchy.

You now have a functional Date Picker.

Add a Button container

  1. Drag a Button container from the left-hand panel into the builder area.

  2. Select the Button container area and update the Label.

  1. Select the Button inside the container and update its Label.

  1. Open Actions for the Button.

  2. Choose Clear All Filters, then click OK.

Your Button container now includes a button that clears all filters when clicked.

Add a Group

  1. Drag a Group from the left-hand panel into the builder area.

  2. Drag a Button container, Date Picker, and Slicer into your Group.

  1. Configure each item individually by selecting it and adjusting its settings:

    • Button container — set labels and actions

    • Date Picker — choose the date dimension and toggle hierarchy

    • Slicer — select a dimension and adjust settings

Your Group now combines multiple controls into a single reusable layout.
